Hi Guys,

Have a storage HP 3par 10400, and full 93%, thin provisioning.
I know the HP Support, talk to me, dont recommend use more than 90%.

I need the document explain about this, above 90% busy.

How fast can you react if your environment suddently grows 10%? Getting more disks and licenses for a 10k (if the licenses is still even available) takes weeks. When the system is 100%, no volumes can grow and all servers using the 3PAR is told that the disks are full when they try to write which usually gives you a bluescreen.

Setting a defined value for that threshold is impossible. If you are a one man shop with 100TB, 10TB is a lot. If you are a service provider and is in no control of the usage, 2.5TB on a 25TB system suddently feels a lot less. If you're using snapshots and/or replication it feels even less.

How big is your array ?

90% full on an array with 4 * 300GB drives is more of an issue than 90% full on a array with 240*3.84TB drives.

Is your array oversubscribed ? If so by how much ?

I'm not a fan of going past 85% when an array is over subscribed .. wiggle room for problems gets smaller.
