I have an assumption here, just wanted to make sure it was correct prior to doing anything.

My assumption is that when I create a drive for a VM on Hyper-V that is hosted on a 3par, rather than dynamically expanding, I should make it a fixed size and allow the 3par to handle whether or not it is actually using the space. Is that correct?

Also, what's the downside to not doing this, just reduced performance?

Thanks,

I'm not 100% sure about Hyper-V, but for Vmware the VM needs to be thin in Vmware for it to forward the unmap commands from the VMs. I would assume the same for Hyper-V (thin on thin) but not 100% sure.

Okay, so in that case it would need to be a dynamic disk (which would be thin)?
