I was trying to locate the HP serial number from a new couple of systems, and tried the "shownode -i -svc" command, which works a treat on 7400's. However, a V400 running 3.1.3 MU1 came up with a really interesting little error...

cli% shownode -i -svc
Inventory is only available for HP 3PAR 7x00 and 8400 series systems

Hello? 8400?? I'm not part of the NDA groups now, due to a change of job, but for those who haven't signed any NDA's, can anyone confirm any details?

It probably all goes hand in hand with the 3.2.1 release of the OS. The V series heralded v3.0 and the 7x00 came out with 3.1.2 installed. So, when 3.2.1 is pencilled for release, I'll be the 8400 will be running it.

Isn't the 7000 series controllers due for an upgrade?

I know there's new hardware coming out, but I've not heard a name for it, there is a new 7000 series model coming out too, but I can't say what it is.

I assume it'll be launched at HP discover later this year.

Is the "new 74x0" just a rumor?
Because HP told us that there is now "new 74X0" or successor to the 74x0 for the next Year.

well the 7450 is most assuredly NOT a rumor... It's been out for some time.

As far as a hardware refresh, I would think there has to be some type of update to the 7200/7400 coming down the pike. They were released almost 2 years ago, so I would be surprised if HP wasn't working on a hardware refresh.

That being said, I would be surprised if HP called it the 8400, as it might cause confusion over the old HP EVA 4400/6400/8400 line, but maybe that's just me and HP doesn't care about that.
