I wanted to get some feedback on how folks are laying out their host ports connections. There has been some discussions on exactly the best way to layout out host ports on our 8-node V800. So original setup that was carried over from a large S800 design was to split node pairs per fabric. For example here is our current layout spread across node pairs:

0:1:1 & 1:1:1 Fabric 1
2:1:2 & 3:1:2 Fabric 2

We had an HP resource come in and say that this was wrong. So the trainer stated that best practice is to keep the host completely on node pairs instead of spliting. So the example the correct way would be:

0:1:1 & 1:1:1 Fabric 1
0:1:2 & 1:1:2 Fabric 2

The explaination was that you keep the I/O contained to the single node pair. In theroy it makes sense but just wanted to see what everyone else is doing. It's a large configuration change. Also asked for this somewhere in documentation from HP and they haven't provided. In the latest best practices it only goes as far as 4-node and doesn't specifically say zone to one node pair just that the partner port should be used.

See the following document. It details how the nodes should be zoned/connected for persistent ports to work (to put it another way: according to best practice). It doesn't get into an 8 node configuration (that's a lot of nodes) but you can extrapolate from the included examples

I would set it up connecting to a node pair, and configure to support persistent ports as mentioned above.
