Post subject:  Storage Host not showing on all four node ports

I have an ESXi host that I've added to my 3PAR 7400c, but it's only showing connected to three of the four storage ports. These are FC connections and all appear to be zoned properly.

FC HBA1 is connected to 0:1:2
FC HBA2 is connected to 0:1:1 and 1:1:1

I've rebooted node 1 just in case there was some weird problem, but all of my other storage hosts are connecting fine save for this one.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

Is this a new install, or is this an existing live system that has other ESXi hosts connected?

I assume you are missing 1:1:2?

Can any other host see 1:1:2? If yes, then it's likely to be a zoning problem, and do a deep dive making triple sure the WWPNs are zoned correctly.

If nothing can see 1:1:2 then troubleshoot the switch connection from 1:1:2 to switch.

Does the switch show the port where 1:1:2 is plugged is as online?

Is the switch port licensed? Many FC switches are licensed per active port, you may have a 24 port switch with only 8 ports licensed for example.

Is the switch port admin up or down?

Is the switch port assigned to a different Cisco VSAN or Brocade Virtual Fabric?

Does the switch see the WWN of port 1:1:2 logged in?

Does the 3par show 1:1:2 online and is it configured as a "host" port?

Hope this helps!

Hi,

most obvious imho: Did you try rebooting the host? If MPIO or hba driver have a problem, then this could easily explain what you see.

When I've seen this it's normally the host port end. As mentioned double check zones, host reboot, disable/enable the host port on the switch and check the HBA driver/firmware versions against the HPE SPOCK list (as it's a new server might not be patched to supported versions yet).
