Post subject:  Service Console (SC) versus StoreServ Management Console

Hi,
I cant seem to google the answer. I would appreciate it if someone could tell me the functionality differences between the Service Console (SC) and the StoreServ Management Console (SSMC).

Can you do everything via the service console ? or are there features not available in either ?

I'm guessing you mean Service Processor and not Service Console.

SP basically handles call home, alert notification and 3PAR OS upgrades.

SSMC is where you manage the 3PAR (volumes, host, presentations, replication, etc).

Or if you are referring to the CLI/SSH console then yes you can do everything from the CLI, what the SSMC adds (in some areas) is the ability to do tasks across multiple arrays at once or chain commands together (like create vv, add to rcopy group & export to host).

The SSMC just does the typing for you.

I do mean Service Console. According to documentation, the service console runs on the Service Processor. The SSMC is a separate application, that can be installed locally as well. The service console is a web based application. I just dont know the difference in functionality of the SC and SSMC

As Mamma mentions the interface on the Service Processor is meant for maintenance of the array, call home, alert emails, updates, part replacements etc.
You can also access the CLI from there to execute normal commands.

SSMC has a similar look, they updated the Service Processor interface to look like SSMC for version 5. SSMC is for operational management of the array, day to day creating LUNs etc.
