I started this new thread so I don't hijack the other VVOL thread...

I have vCenter 6 all setup, V400 with 3.2.1 mu2 p12, I followed all HP guides and all appears well up until the point of trying to write to the 3PAR.

The array acts as if the LUNs were created (showvvolvm) however in vCenter it immediately fails with filecreation error, cant write, etc.

I am curious if anyone else has ran into this issue, or if someone else has successfully ran VVOLs and can offer any guidance or advice?

Thanks!

If you are using the customized HP ESXi install, they are shipping old 5.5 drivers that do not support vvols.
Download updated FC HBA drivers from my VMware. (if using FC)

Really strange that HP chose to use a lot of 5.5 drivers, there is quote a gap between HP and VMware iso.

After the licensing bug that hp introduced in 5.0, I have sworn of using hp custom iso's. I usually use vmware image builder cli and create my own for this very reason

I use the hp images weekly and never have any issues with them, it's essential really for the nic drivers. I just reference the current recipe guide in the vibs depot to then add any new ones after that.

Not using an image because there was a bug several years ago is not really a worthwhile reason imo.

The bug in question occurred because hp somehow made the licensing file read only. So I could not apply a license, could not manage with vcenter, and could not non-disruptively upgrade because I couldn't vmotion. It was kind of a big deal.

And history repeats itself every time hp uses incorrect or out of date drivers.

It's easier, and safer, to take control, and create a custom ISO. It's not even that hard.

Would anyone be interested in cooperating in keeping an up2date custom build image with latest drivers?
We are also ditching Dell/HP and doing the VMware + async drivers imagebuilder from vSphere 6 and on...
