Our UPS failed and we completely lost power to server room.

Our old 3par 7400 which we are using for test/training environment failed to come back online.

One disk tray failed to power back up properly: Identifier LED is dark, disk status LEDs are dark, POWER and amber alert LED are illuminated. Power supplies both show single green LED, and all LEDs on back of tray are dark.

Any suggestions on how to proceed? I'm having difficulty connecting to serial console on the 7400, but I also am having problems serial consoling in to a storsimple so I think it's my USB serial adapter.

I did try to power cycle that tray and nothing has changed.

I have an entire spare 7200-series 3par sitting in a rack next to it that I can cannibalize for spare parts for now.

Picture of dead unit attached.

Is the controllers up and cluster has formed (can you ping the IP of the system)?

If yes, the proceed. If no, check LEDs on controllers/nodes.

SSH to the system and do checkhealth. If only one cage is missing I would try removing one of the IFCs (where you connect SAS cables) and take one of your spares from the 7200 to see if it helps.

Just as a side note. What 3PAR OS version where you running prior to shutdown, how many cages you got and are you using anything other than the short 1 and 2 meter SAS cables?

i'd connect a cable to the console port on the 3par, and try the power cycle again, and see if you can any faults as its powering up to why it never fully comes up.

I'm assuming with the powercycle, you've removed all power. Power up disk shelves, wait 10 mins then power up the controller drawers?
