Hiya, Can encryption be enabled if there are non-SEDs in the array ? We have 192 3.84TiB drives, but only 32 of them are SED capable ... would I be able to enable encryption with such a setup ? Can I isolate encrypted volumes to a CPG that only spans the SEDs maybe ? Thanks! |

First question; Are you even licensed for encryption? Code: licenseshow

Not yet ... but if we don't get it as part of the "all you can eat" license model then we'll ask HPE for it. |

To my understanding this is a "take all or take none" scenario. You either encrypt something or you encrypt everything as the encryption is done a the physical disk. Quickspec states: Quote: An encrypted HPE 3PAR StoreServ array, i.e. any HPE 3PAR StoreServ array that has the HPE 3PAR Data Encryption license activated or intended to be activated, must have only self-encrypted drives installed. Encryption license is not part of all-inclusive, most likely due to the fact that HPE is selling that to countries where US companies are not allowed to export cryptography. |

Thanks .. answers that question! All drives must be SED. Might be a business case for a baby 3PAR for applications with encryption requirements. |
