Post subject:  Shutdown 7400

Hello,

We have to shutdown 3PAR system and power off to fix the issue with power circuits.

I looked up online and found below steps to shutdown. We do have few failed PDs. Will this be an issue if we shutdown and restart?

What is the best option to go with? Are there any other steps that needs to be performed before taking the system down?

Steps to shutdown Use either A) SPOCC OR B) CLI and then follow HARDWARE steps.

A) SPOCC
1 Connect via web GUI to your Service Processor
2 Select SPmaint on the left hand menu
3 Choose StoreServ Product Maintenance
4 Choose halt a storeServ cluster/node
5 Choose to shutdown the cluster, not the separate nodes
6 Wait about 5 minutes, then follow the hardware steps later in the post

B) CLI

shutdownsys halt

Wait 5 minutes and follow hardware steps:

HARDWARE STEPS
1 Wait aprox 5 mins for shut down
2 Check the node Status LED is flashing green and the node hotplug LED is blue
3 Turn off the node PCM switches at the back of the controller nodes.
4. Turn off the node PCM switches at the back of the disk shelves

POWER ON
========
3PAR will automatically turn its self back on when power is detected so you will just need turn the PCM switches back on. The order is the reverse of power off:

1 Turn on the node PCM switches at the back of the disk shelves

2 Turn on the node PCM switches at the back of the controller nodes

Thank you

Looks good.

Just keep in mind that hardware that has been running non-stop for many years might have latent hardware issue that will become visible at a full shutdown.

So if you already have failed PDs I would ensure to have them replaced before shutting stuff down....

Thanks. We recently got power outage and systems came back normally( luckily)

I have one more question. Where will be the PCM switches for controller nodes? I could not locate this. I saw PCM switches on each side of disk shelf. I am attaching the pictures of front and back of 3PAR system.

In node cage, disks and nodes share PCM/PSU.

I was able to shutdown and reboot successfully. Following these steps.

I shutdown VMs that are configured on these volumes before 3PAR halt just to make sure there are no locks anywhere.
