Post subject:  Interesting commands HPE support run

Hi,

Just thought I'd create a running log of commands I've not seen before that HPE support run when troubleshooting :

cgcmd -tc tty -C cage3 -c "report_faults" -p b

Some sort of "cage command", looks like it interrogates the controllers in drive cages.
Output some good info, found the drive shelf was complaining about low temperature warnings (it was "degraded" in SSMC but no reason as to why found in the GUI, so logged a case)

Anyone else have some interesting commands ?

those commands are for reason allowed only to hpe and should stay that way :)

Those commands on the 7000/8000 interact with the Xyratex CLI.
There is some additional detailed hardware diagnostics HPE support can do.

Yes, this commands communicate directly to HW. In most cases you do not need to do so.

For lovers of CLI, here is command from first post edited to InformOS CLI.
Code:
tcli -e "jt tty -n cage3 -c "report_faults" -p b"

I propose using this commands only on LAB units, trying commands without documentation on production... ;-)

HPE them self published another low level cage command in this youtube video.

3PAR 7000&8000:
Code:
cgcmd -tc tty -C cageX -c resetdrive X -p a|b

3PAR 9000&20000:
Code:
cgcmd -tc tty -C cage1 -p a -c drivebay bay=3 set power=off
cgcmd -tc tty -C cage1 -p a -c drivebay bay=3 set power=on

Hi

Just wondered how you fixed the low temperature warnings ? Im seeing something similar with the cage degraded in the SSMC and a low temperature warning, but showcage seems to think everything is fine! I've got a case open with HPe but they haven't go to the bottom of it yet.....

We had low temperature alerts three times now .. two where on PCM modules which HPE could hot swap, the third was on the internal backplane of the cage and that couldn't be hot swapped so HPE had to attach an extra cage and move drives to it (took about a week to complete as drives had to be emptied before they could be pulled and moved), then replace the bad cage, and reverse the drive swap process .. wasn't fun doing it all on a live system and not something I'd do without HPE support :)
