Hiya, Has anyone gone through a process of swapping out lower capacity drives with larger drives online ? We have a couple of 8400s with 192 * 3.84TB drives each, and the maximum we can install in the array is 224 (we do 7+1 HA so install drives in batches of 32) For the next upgrade we either roll in a new array or maybe swap the 3.84TB drives with 7.68TB drives .. just wondering how aweful the process for swapping drives might be ? Thanks! |

I'm guessing servicemag would be the best way to do this. If that is the case I'm guessing you would be able to swap one or two drives per day. To be honest ... a 8400 with 224x 3.84TB (~800TB) is a lot of capacity with not a lot of horse power. If it were me, I would have started on a new array quite some time ago .... and if planning on building that big I would be looking a nothing smaller than 9450. |
