We lost both power supplies in one of the two controller enclosures. Apparently the system mandates at least one supply per enclosure so the entire array is down.

We proposed swapping supplies around (i.e. taking one of the supplies from the "good" enclosure) to get the array back online but HP level 2 support strongly advised against it as it would make the array "very unstable." We're following their guidance and we're taking a lot of heat from the business over this.

Anyone have experience with this sort of thing? Seems like this unit isn't nearly as resilient as we thought...

If you have two node enclosures with the same type of PSUs I would swap.

I'ld rather have two enclosures with no redundancy than a system that is down.

As for redundancy, the 3PAR has a hardware design with no single point of failure. You had two failures in the same failure domain.

My experience is that PSU doesn't fail often. I don't think I have one system lose a total of 2 PSUs..... during the entire life span.
