Post subject:  Recommendation for CPG on new shelf

Good day all.

I am filling out a new shelf (M6710) next week with 24 FC drives. I have heard that RAID6 was the preferred standard these days but have never really had to start a new CPG from scratch.

Should I just take the defaults from the 3PAR on RAID6 or is there any way to figure out which would be the best set size ?

This will house SQL volumes for our DR Site if that makes any difference.

Any insight would be great.

Thanks!

You don't need a new CPG when adding a new cage. If you do nothing on a 7200/8200 it will do tunesys and balance existing data on new drives (if they match an existing CPG).

3PAR does not use a disk based raid, but Raid6 is the preferred choice for CPGs.

Adding more drives does not require (or recommend) creating a new CPG.

Thanks all.

I didnt give enough information but we currently have no FC drives in this 3PAR which is why I mentioned creating the new CPG.
