Good afternoon all.

Looks like we will need some new Near Line storage on our 7200c 3PAR in 2019. The budget isnt terribly large for this so I am trying to figure out which is the better way to go. I know we will need a M6720 shelf but was wondering if it makes sense to get 6tb (we currently use 4tb) drives or more 4tb drives. With the 6tb drives we would need less of them and if the cost was right it may prove cheaper but I know more 4tb drives means more spindles.

Anyone have any thoughts on the subject?

Looking at the internet published list prices, the drives are the same price per TB. I would recommend staying with the 4 TB drives for more spindles/iops, slightly better rebuild times, and easier re-balancing.

To stretch your budget, ask for HPe Renew pricing. Renew is the refurb program, same warranty and support as new gear for less.

Thanks Richard. That seems to make the most sense. I asked our rep about the Renew program and they are checking on stock.

Appreciate the input.
