We got 12 new 8TB drives and as there a different drive size to the other NL drives in the system I would like to create a CPG just for the 8TB.

BNE-3PAR cli% createcpg -sdgs 64g -t r6 -ha mag -ssz 10 -ss 128 -p -devid SMKP8
000S5xeN7.2 bne.noao.nl.r6.02
Error: no available space for given (invalid?) parameters

BNE-3PAR cli% showpd -c -p -devid SMKP8000S5xeN7.2
-------- Normal Chunklets -------- ---- Spare Chunklets ----
- Used - -------- Unused --------- - Used - ---- Unused ----
Id CagePos Type State Total OK Fail Free Uninit Unavail Fail OK Fail Free Uninit Fail

60 2:14:0 NL normal 7293 0 0 7293 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
61 2:15:0 NL normal 7293 1 0 7292 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
64 2:18:0 NL normal 7293 1 0 7292 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
65 2:19:0 NL normal 7293 0 0 7293 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
68 2:22:0 NL normal 7293 0 0 7293 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
69 2:23:0 NL normal 7293 1 0 7292 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12 total 87516 6 0 87510 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

Doesn't make sense to me? It's really anoying the SMMC doesn't have disk filter options like the old HP 3PAR Managment Console.

But either way I can't get my CPG created.

With 3.3.1 it should work. With 3.2.2 you don't have Express Layout on NL drives and need 20 drives to create LDs with setsize 10.

we are running 3.3.1
changing the set size to 6 doesn't help

createcpg -sdgs 64g -t r6 -ha mag -ssz 6 -ss 128 -p -devid SMKP8000S5xeN7.2 bne.noao.nl.r6.02

BNE-3PAR cli% showversion
Release version 3.3.1 (MU2)
Patches: P32,P34,P36,P37,P39,P40,P42

Component Name Version
CLI Server 3.3.1 (P40)
CLI Client 3.3.1
System Manager 3.3.1 (P40)
Kernel 3.3.1 (MU2)
TPD Kernel Code 3.3.1 (MU2)
TPD Kernel Patch 3.3.1 (P40)

BNE-3PAR cli% createcpg -sdgs 64g -t r6 -ha mag -ssz 6 -ss 128 -p -devid SMKP8000S5xeN7.2 bne.noao.nl.r6.02
Error: no available space for given (invalid?) parameters
BNE-3PAR cli%

BNE-3PAR cli% showspace -ha mag -p -devid SMKP8000S5xeN7.2
--Estimated(MB)---
RawFree UsableFree
0 0

Wasn't sure if showspace could like that.
Doing a statement for all NL works fine.

BNE-3PAR cli% showspace -ha mag -p -devtype NL
---Estimated(MB)----
RawFree UsableFree

I've only had to filter on type (FC/NL) before and don't have a system that uses that anymore alas but have you tried using the disk size filters instead? If it works it means any later replacements or additions with a newer model will be covered.
