We have a 3par with 36 sas disks and a cluster with 3 HyperV nodes. the SQL was performing good but we needed to speed up things, so we got 8 SSD disks.

we moved the database to a ssd volume and the performance was tragic

the index of the databas on the sas took 1h 36m and on the ssd took 5h 53m.

all hosts are firmare updated and the fiber switch to the latests.

any ideas what might be going wrong???

Do you have more info on your setup ?

Is it a thin, deduped, compressed volume on the array ?

Did you do a host based "copy the files" migration to the new volume or have the array tune the existing volume onto SSD for you ?
- If you did a host based copy did you make sure to format the disk correctly ? had a similar issue where SQL disks were formatted 4k and should be 64k

More info is always good :-)

Also, what is the indexing doing. If it was large sequential IO you're not getting a lot more power/bandwidth per spindle. So a 75% reduction in spindles isn't always a good thing :).

Latency however should be a lot lower.

What 3par system do you have and what 3par OS version?

Some times bad sector in hard drive cause it to slow down, there are number of factors for which it could happen to any ssd, you have to diagnose it properly througn boot menu or software application.

Just 8? I'm guessing that is Raid5 3+1?
