 Post subject: what tasks I cannot make on online virtual volume?

I'm using virtual volumes on 3par 8200 to use in ESXi 6 as datastores.
I'm not able to use vStorage motion for some VM because they have disks are not persistent so I cannot free datastore.
I ask if there are tasks, about virtual volumes, which require to free space inside because there is risk to get data lost e.g. thin dedup conversion (supposed I have license)
I need to know what activities I cannot make to virtual volume when It's used.
