Post subject:  StatPD and idle Disks

Hey Guys,

just playing with a few performance commands having a look see if anything interesting or odd showed up and low and behold it did..

a whole heap of SSD disks idle on one of the 2 ports (not all them mind), maybe nothing but I found it strange.. none of our other disks have this occurrence..

any thoughts or suggestions appreciated (no adaptive flash cache setup)

If Express Layout isn't triggered, all traffic to that disk will come from one node.

What is your hardware config and CPG settings.

So hardware wise we have 3 shelves, 1 NL, 1 Half Full with SSD and 1 50/50 SSD and FC disk.

we have 6 CPG's, 1 for each disk type for direct presented LUN's and 1 for each disk type for AO, which is how most of our disks are presented.

SSD Settings:

Direct Settings:
Device type SSD 150K
Raid type RAID 5
Availability
Requested Magazine (Lower)
Current Magazine (Lower)
Set size 5 data, 1 parity
Step size 64 KiB
Preferred chunklets Fast
Disk filter -t r5 -ha mag -ssz 6 -p -devtype SSD -rpm 150

AO Settings:
Device type SSD 150K
Raid type RAID 5
Availability
Requested Magazine (Lower)
Current Magazine (Lower)
Set size 3 data, 1 parity
Step size 64 KiB
Preferred chunklets Fast
Disk filter -t r5 -ha mag -ssz 4 -p -devtype SSD -rpm 150

So you have 24 SSDs and 2 nodes?

20 SSD's over 2 nodes

Then that would give 10 SSDs per node (assuming correct physical placement and identical capacity) and that shouldn't trigger Express Layout for your config.

I would trigger a tunesys to see if that would even it out and fix the problem.
