just want to check,

how to perform migration to 3par, without using the online import tools..

is there a way for us to migrate it manually

eg manually map the lun from eg VNX2 to 3PAR
then in 3par migrate/import and present to the hosts ?

That's what the import tool is for I believe. :)

By manual migration, depending on server OS, you can just present new LUNs from the 3PAR to the hosts and Vmotion VMs in VMware or mirror LUNs in Unix/Windows.

We've not had to use the tool before as it's often been a good opportunity to update VMware LUN format versions or rethink LUN sizes etc, all our systems have been able to migrate natively online between SANs.

including clustered systems ?

i know the downtime will be for redoing the MPIO for windows and none for unix/aix/linux/solaris

Luckily we don't do much Windows clusters, almost all in VMware. I know there are typically a few Windows updates/hotfixes to apply and multipath setup so need to reboot Windows nodes at some point. I'd hope that could be done within the cluster failover but would be the same pain for any SAN migration.

I think our last physical Windows cluster is being decommissioned before our next SAN migration as it's still 2008, it's only taken them 5 years to sort it out.
