I have a 7200c with 28 SAS disks 600GB SFF
(14 en the node, 14 on the M612)

I have bought 12 SAS Disks 600GB SFF and 8 SSD disk 400GB SFF.

What the correct process to add this disks ? (licences, use CLI or SSMC)
How many disks can I an plugged simultaneously ?
Do I need to tunesys after all drives are normal status ?
what the impact of the performance of tunesys ?

Thanks for your help

CLI for licensing
Give it a few seconds between each, make sure you plug them correctly if you have HA cage or similar.
Depending on 3PAR OS version, tunesys may start automatically, if not it should be used to spread the data across all disks, impact is minimal (someone once told me 9%, but I think that is high)

Thanks,

I found this article for add license
http://adminhelpline.blogspot.com/2013/ ... -3par.html

is it correct ?

why is prefer to use cli that gui ?

For disk plugging, I plugg 2 disk, wait, check status, then 2 new disks, etc.. ?

because CLI shows you the difference between the keys before you do the change, and it provides you with an option to record your existing (showlicense -raw) key in case something is wrong with the license.

I usually open all boxes and put the drives in a box. Then unpack disk -> install, unpack disk -> install .... that gives it a few seconds between each drive.

Thanks,

That's my actual license:
System is licensed for 28 disks.

License features currently enabled:
3PAR OS Suite
Adaptive Flash Cache
Autonomic Rebalance
Dynamic Optimization
Thin Conversion
Thin Copy Reclamation
Thin Deduplication
Thin Persistence
Thin Provisioning (10240000G)
VSS Provider for Microsoft Windows

License features enabled on a trial basis that have expired:
Peer Motion Expired on June 17, 2015

HPE provide me this new license:
HP 3PAR 7200 OS Suite Drive E-LTU BC746AAE 20
HP 3PAR 7200 Virtual Copy Base E-LTU BC753AAE 1
HP 3PAR 7200 Virtual Copy Drive E-LTU BC754AAE 48
HP 3PAR 7200 Dynamic Opt Drive E-LTU BC758AAE 20
HP 3PAR 7200 Adaptive Opt Base E-LTU BC759AAE 1
HP 3PAR 7200 Adaptive Opt Drive E-LTU BC760AAE 48

Do you think is correct ?
Is the new license will be merge with the actual ?
What will happens if the license is not correct ?
Do I need to merge manually the license ?

Sorry for my newbie's questions, it's the first time that I have to install disk on a 3par Array

You will need to merge those new licenses with the existing licensing which you should have on your Passport account on the HPE enterprise licensing portal.

If you use the CLI it will tell you what the license does (changes (number of disks) features added (AO, VC) and features removed (none)). If something seems fishy, you just say "no" to adding the license.

Worst case if you install the wrong license, you will lose features and not be able to add the drives. To be honest I don't understand why you don't have an installation service on this if you feel insecure. Install service for just adding drives like this have been less than 500USD and is cheaper than getting a consultant to do it for you later. But to be honest, this is really straight forward. You can't do much wrong except put the drives in wrong.

1. install license. In a case of trouble ask for help hpe on software license portal. You can do it through the chat.
2. Install ssd and hdd one by another.
3. admitpd for activation.
4. admithw for spear reservation.
5. tunesys for rebalancing.

also you can't install licences for disks number less then you allready have. setlicense will fail.

Before install check the drive support matrix on hpe SPOCK. May be required 3par OS upgrade.

Hi,
Thanks to all for the help :)

I have install my license and add disks without any problem.
Only 2 disk require the adminthw (because already datas was present, refurbished disks ?), other automatically.
Tunesys is in progress (automatically launched by the system)...
Now how many time ? wait and see...

I have this 4 tasks active
Id Type Name Status Phase Step -------StartTime-------- -FinishTime- -Priority- -User--
589 system_tuning tunesys active 2/3 30780/9330688 2018-06-04 15:03:24 CEST - n/a 3parsvc
591 background_command tunenodech active 2/2 30/4540 2018-06-04 15:08:48 CEST - n/a 3parsvc
596 background_command tuneld active 1/1 0/1 2018-06-04 15:36:01 CEST - n/a 3parsvc
597 move_regions tuneld: volume11.usr.0 active 1/1 135/180 2018-06-04 15:36:02 CEST - n/a 3parsvc

Do I need to wait the finish of all task to grow existent volumes or add new volume ? I saw in HPE's documentation this:
"The system can be used normally, but newly added capacity must be initialized before
it can be allocated."

Thanks

Just look at showpd -c to monitor chunklet init. It will initialize 1 chunklet(GB) at a time and capacity is available for allocation as soon as the chunklet is initialized.
