Spanish or Portugese isn't my strongest side so not sure what the numbers are.

VMs should be Eager Zero Thick as long as you're not using VMFS6 on ESXi6.5. If you have VMFS6 it should be thin.

If VMFS5 you should run unmap from time to time.

When doing showvv -s in CLI, User Rsvd after unmap should show the correct data and User Rsvd will decrease over time to match User Usd.

Curious to know why and any more info you may have about this?

EZT for VMFS5 or thin on thin for VMFS6?

We have for the longest time ran thick eager on VMFS5 on our 3par's based on recommendations from the past, etc. Even with 3.3.1 and dedupe I have continued to thick eager all VM's. It sounds like with VMFS6 those recommendations may have changed? I am curious what is recommended now and why?

It's in the Adaptive Data Reduction whitepaper.

What has changed is that Vmware is finally supporting unmap on VMFS starting with VMFS6. For the unmap commands to be triggered, everything must be thin.

You can of course continue with EZT and manually doing unmap, but I like everything I don't need to do so I prefer it automatic.

With vsphere 6.7 you're getting more options for unmap priority as well. 6.5 was only "low" or "off"

Thank you for the information and follow-up; this matches what I was able to find online myself.

Sorry for the thread hijack.

Linux is more a challange then windows no ?
