Hello,
Just to share with you this topic about cage removal. Because i cannot found documentation, i wrote mine.
Removing cage in 3PAR is not a standard procedure... Really ?

Steps :
1. Remove data from disks (disks that you want to dismiss), including spare (removespare command)
2. Dismiss all PD's in cage.
3. Offline ports with "controlport offline <node:slot:port>"
4. servicecage remove <cage name>
Do a showcage to validate. Then unplug cage(s) and do an adminhw to be sure.

That's all.

I let you find the best way for your array to remove datas from existing disks.
My method : Forbiden writes on disk with "setpd ldalloc off <PD_ID>", then tunevv in a new CPG with -cg option to select other cages. Not really a good idea, because if you add cages later, they will not be addressed. But after remove cage, set the CPG without -cg option.

I'm waiting your comments.
Loïc

PS : and now, i want to remove nodes from a F400... I have 4 nodes, i want to remove 0 and 1 : how to ?

Thank you for the great info!

Question: shouldn't the "ldalloc off" be enough if you marked all the PDs inside the cage? Isnt changing the cpg to use the -cg filter overkill?

Hi Richard,
If you change the CPG with a -cg, all chunklett already assign stay assign, the system don't move chunklets. Same issue with "ldalloc off", all LD used stay used. So you absolutely need to move LDs, with some tunevv.
