Post subject:  Re: Remove PD

Hi every one, I am back with a new question regards this topic,

I am evacuating a couple of 900GB 10K hard disks but I noticed that when I am moving the chunklets they are relocating the chunklets in 300GB 15k rpm disk

I do not know why the system is doing that because I have one CPG for each type of disks, can anyone explain me what is going on?

I would expect that the chunklets were moved to 900GB 10K disks and the problem is that I am getting out of space in the 15k disks.

Thanks,
AMC

Are you moving chunklets to spares? If so, how many spares do you have for each disk type?

Hi Richard,

Yes I am moving chunklets to spares, I have 40 disk at 10k rpm and the CPG is 3-1 and 156 disks at 15k rpm with 3-1 too.

It is important to note that the % of usage in 10k is 82% and for 15k is 94%.

Post subject:  Re: Remove PD

Hi all,

Apologies for dragging up an old thread but I feel it's on topic. I have an old 7400 with a failed drive and we want to remove the drive and not replace it.

I have followed the steps outlined in this post but when I try the dismisspd command I get
"Error : Pd id 186 is referenced by chunklet 0:777"

I am guessing this is because when the drive failed the system would have automatically moved the chunklets off the PD it would have been done expecting the drive to be replaced, therefor there's still references to the failed PD.

when I run cli% showpdch -from 186 I get

.
.
.
196 786 tp-1-sd-0.135 159 normal ld valid Y N 186:321 ---
196 787 tp-1-sd-0.175 135 normal ld valid Y N 186:421 ---
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Total chunklets: 396

not sure what I should do to clean this up.. do I remove a good PD (following the steps in this post) and then use it to replace the failed disk?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Nathan
