Post subject:  Space usage and reclamation

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone knows what the Columns Grown_Usr_MB and Reclaimed_Usr_MB mean?

Does this relate to how much the VV has grown and space reclaimed in a particular timeframe?

Thanks.

Looking at:
Code:
clihelp -col showvv

it describes
Quote:
Grown_Usr_MB
Amount of user space that the volume has grown.
Reclaimed_Usr_MB
Amount of user space that the volume has had reclaimed.

This would have to be counters based on VV inception as there is no way to specify a timeframe for a showvv command. I would imagine this command might be useful to gauge how actively a volume grows/shrinks. To put another way, if a volume is only growing and never shrinking, do you want the overhead of having zero detect turned on?

I've never used these values so I am only speculating.

Does anyone know for certain how to evaluate these fields?

For example:

Name Adm_Used_MB Grown_Adm_MB Snp_Used_MB Grown_Snp_MB Usr_Used_MB Grown_Usr_MB
VolX 4123 0 0 16896 3190875 14298112
VolY 5080 0 0 8192 7508887 12539392
VolZ 3450 0 0 33280 3047887 11702784

If these fields are recorded from volume inception, is it possible to reset the counters so you can monitor growth?

Is there any other way to spot a growth trend, does the SSMC offer this?

Could you not use srcpgspace and srvvspace and pull the historical data over a given time frame from the onboard system reporter database ?
