Disk Enclosure physical switches power On/OFF order

Post by Miho etf »

Hello to all,

When we shut down 3PAR storage system physically (after software shutdown) we first turn OFF power switches on controller enclosure, than on disk enclosures, and when we power it ON again we do the opposite.

I wonder is the order of turning DISK enclosures ON and OFF (if there are more than one) important for 3PAR system?

Or is it all the same in which order we turn ON and OFF power switches on DISK enclosures (as long as we turn on controller enclosure correctly - before or after disk enclosures)

Thanks, Miho

I'm not aware of any order so long as all disk trays are fully powered first.

Possibly if daisy chaining trays but so long as all spun up before controllers it should be fine. It takes a while for the controllers to get to the disk scanning phase anyway but I'd still feel better about all the disk trays being green first (have had a couple of trays having loose power connections after PDU maintenance so was good to sort that before controllers started).
