Hi,

If a 3PAR reachs 100% capacity (no chunklets free) what happens ?
Would it make use of the spare capacity to carry on working ?
Would it sacrafice snapshots to free up space ?

Thanks!

Mark

If its full you get "full disk" in OS when you try to write to a new block.

No and no.

You can change sparring policy and possibly relocate some chunklets manually, but it doesn't happen automatically.

If you have multiple tiers it will use chunklets from lower tiers, but not higher.

When the 3par is full, if a LUN is asking to grow, the CPG will check LD's and they will take new chunklets from disks. If the 3par is full it will not be possible and the LUN will completely freeze, all your VM inside the volume will hang/freeze.

So if a 3par is full, if a LUN need 1GB more from disks (a chunklet), the LUN freeze along with your vm's.

We got this once when one of our SSD was faulty (wrong configuration of the raid on the array), no more free chunklets on the 3par.

As soon as the LUN is not asking to grow you are safe but sooner or later you are toasted.
