Hello all, 1st post so please be gentle ;)

HPE Remote support are preparing to upgrade my 7200c running 3.2.1 GA to 3.2.2 MU4. As part of this they've sent me an Upgrade Preparation Guide which I'm attempting to check / follow. I have 3 hosts connected to my 3Par all HP DL 360 G9s all running ESXi 6.0 Patch 6.

In the upgrade guide there is a - WMware: Section 7 "New LUNs can no longer be added to ESX 6.0 environment after 3PAR OS upgrade to 3.2.2.GA or higher"

I've read and re-read this and can't work out what it's on about. Firstly it seems to refer to 20k and 8k 3Par arrays, then in says that for ESXi 5.5 and later that "there is no need to configure anything on the array or the host HBA driver."

Then it says "For 7k and 10k arrays (such as the array that underwent the upgrade), the VMWare host driver has this turned on by default, In these cases, the customer should turn this off"

I'm really at a loss - should I be turning this off? The guide doesn't seem terribly clear.

Many thanks,
Matthew

That's a new section since we updated, we didn't do anything for our 10k and 8k systems.

I'd make sure your drivers and firmware are in the supported list at HPE SPOCK site and maybe execute the listed command just to be safe, the feature requires updates on the host, fabric switches and arrays so if they aren't all supported might as well disable it.

It's talking about 3PAR Persistent Checksum, which I think is a 16Gb+ FibreChannel SAN feature, not sure it can be used without Host, SAN and Storage all running 16Gb/32Gb fabric HBAs/GBITs.

As per your suggestion I have checked the HBAs on the SPOCK website and they do not support Persistent Checksum. I shall disable it on the hosts.

Thanks for your help,
Matthew
