Post subject:  Remove a vlun from a hostset

Hi
We have a hostset with 2 associated hosts and 24 VV assigned to this hostset.
We want to remove a LUN from only one host of this hostset. Is it possible to do this?
Or we may remove the VV from the hostset and then reassign it only to a particular host?
Thank you

The latter - You would need to un-export that VV from the hostset and re-export it to the single host.

To bad it won't let you add a 2nd export on the same LUN# to the one host, then un-export it from the hostset... with the net result of just one host losing access to the lun, kind of like how switches resolve multiple zones that have the same members.

I think you can get that ... kind of ...

If you were to export the volume to an individual host as a different Host LUN ID, then do a storage discovery, the hosts multipathing software might treat the extra LUN ID as another path to the same volume. Then you unexport the volume from the host set .. hosts with the volume individually mapped will see path failures

I've only tried this once, was for HP-UX I think.

Interesting idea... worth a test in the lab for certain. I don't know how windows/linux would handle the same volume exported to the same "path" with 2 different LUN numbers... if MPIO does sort that out for us, that would be helpful indeed.

Must be nice to have lab gear to try things on :-)
