If we were talking about Wordpress security updates I would 100% agree.

I've had two separate MSA devices (which seem to be covered by this survey) that were literally bricked - that is, they wouldn't boot until controllers were physically replaced - due to the installation of firmware updates.

In both cases, I only applied the update and HPE's request, and in both cases, it was more than a day until replacement parts showed up.

The premise that that could happen automatically without me scheduling a hazard, is surely very very worrying.

Thank you for those who have already responded to the survey. The response so far has been very good. There is still time for who have not yet taken the survey.

Hope you can take some time out to fill the survey.
Thank you.

Imo, the arrays or SP's should automatically check in for updates and pre-stage the bits/hash check them/ect automatically. Then notify via email locally and via the interface that new updates are ready to load....

Patrick, the SP can already do this - if it has been enabled to do so (inbound communications must be allowed from HPE to the SP).

Once a patch or update has been pre-staged to the SP, an info-level alert appears on the 3PAR being monitored by the SP, saying that "An Update is Available".

The SP can also be configured to send (or supress) email alerts, based on default or user-defined notification rules.

Once on the SP, if you go to the [Update] HPE 3PAR OS [Upgrade] page (depending on SP version), and select the Pre-loaded button, you can see these, and apply them at a time to suit you.

Check the SP User's Guides on HPESC (http://h20566.www2.hpe.com/portal/site/hpsc) for more info.
