Post subject:  impact of turning on dedupe/compression on prod volumes

So I've done the dry runs and I know the estimate I should gain. With the 2008 legacy boxes I had to reboot to get the new paths online during migration and my fear is I will need to do the same if I use the convert to dedupe volume and enable compression as it appears to re-export a new volume. Can anyone provide any additional information on this?

The safest route appears to be saving the original volume with a new prefix, validating after conversion, then deleting the excess as needed. Any links to documentation would b appreciated.

Also, I'm still waiting for the hotfix to 3.3.1 code and letting it bake a bit before enabling, just doing some planning for the next cycle.

EDIT: Found a dev box suitable for testing purposes. Will confirm myself and follow up

Tune and convert is online. Only thing to remember is that you can't convert a volume which is currently in an active RC group.

How did you migrate your 2008 when you needed to reboot during migration? 3PAR to 3PAR with peer motion doesn't require this as long as you're using an ALUA persona (2 or 15) and follow the implemention guide (which states that you enable path verify option in the MPIO options and installs a bunch of KBs).

They were all listed as persona 1 - generic and old HBA drivers. Since we had to reboot anyways to update the drivers we just used that method to finish migration.
