Hi All

We have a new 8400 (4N) with 16 path:

Fabric1 --> 0:0:1 - 0:1:1 - 1:0:1 - 1:1:1 / 2:0:1 - 2:1:1 - 3:0:1 - 3:1:1

Fabric2 --> 0:0:2 - 0:1:2 - 1:0:2 - 1:1:2 / 2:0:2 - 2:1:2 - 3:0:2 - 3:1:2

Is it correct to zone like this :

Host 1 :
Hba1: 0:0:1 - 1:0:1 - 0:1:1 - 1:1:1 (fabric1)
Hba2: 2:0:2 - 3:0:2 - 2:1:2 - 3:1:2 (fabric2)

Host2 :
Hba1: 2:0:1 - 3:0:1 - 2:1:1 - 3:1:1 (fabric1)
Hba2: 0:0:2 - 1:0:2 - 0:1:2 - 1:1:2 (fabric2)

We have vmware and oracle (rhel) hosts

Thank you

It is redundant, so it isn't wrong.

I prefer only 4 paths per host, but thats me.

Why?

For vmware its ok with 4paths because we have 8 hosts but for Oracle we only have 2 hosts so they will only use the half of the 16 paths ... is it a problem?

That appears to be a valid port persistent configuration so it should work. How are you zoning it? Single Initiator/Single Target?
Single Initiator/Multiple Target? or
Multiple Initiator/Multiple Target?

In my environment I zone Single Initiator/Multiple Target with only 4 paths on my physical servers and Single Initiator/Single Target on my esxi hosts with 8 paths.

There is a good write up on zoning and port persistent that I weighed in on a few years ago that is a good read. https://vmfocus.com/2013/08/22/3par-storeserv-zoning-best-practice-guide/
