I want to make a physical copy of a disk (this 3par can't do virtual copies, no license) and i want to give it the same WWN as the source volume. So we want to do some work and if it fails the plan is to power down the host, unexport source volume, export copy taken before work, and re export it. Thinking that if the VV has the same WWN then the HPUX host wont see any difference

Please note i wouldn't export both volumes at the same time.

you can use "setvv -wwn" to change the WWN of volumes.

Just make a note of the source volume WWN, run setvv and change the source volume to some other WWN, then run setvv -wwn against the copy volume and give it the WWN of the source volume.

so if i have to give the source a new wwn, how do i know what i can give it?

create a new volume, make a note of teh wwn, delete that and use that wwn for the source volume?

Or can you think of better way of doing that?

I'm sure the setvv command has an option to create a new WWN (I'm guessing following the normal rules/pattern for that array). So note old one, assign new one to orig volume, assign old one to new volume and export.
