I have a single AO configuration that uses SSD for tier0. I would like to replace the SSD with newer faster SSD but first I want to remove the original SSD out of this 3PAR to relocate it into our DEV 3PAR. To do this I need to remove all data from the old SSD. As there are no VVs assigned to this CPG is there anything other than remove the tier0 from the AO configuration and wait ? Or do I need to manually move the used chunklets and spares on each PD before I evict the disks using dismisspd?

I've not attempted what you are trying to do but I know that you can add and remove CPG's from an active AO config as long as there are two CPG's present in the config at all times. I would think you should be able to follow a similar process to this:

1. Create a new CPG
2. Edit your AO config
3. Add the new CPG as Tier2
4. Remove the Tier0 CPG
5. Save the AO config
6. Delete the SSD CPG
7. Dismiss the PD's from the array (dismisspd)
8. Add the new SSD's (admitpd or admithw)
9. Create the CPG
10. Edit the AO config and add back in Tier0 and remove Tier2
11. Save the AO config
12. Modify your schedule (if required)

You mentioned that you have no VV's created in the SSD CPG but if AO has moved LD's to it then you will want to vacate thoes LD's back to the original CPG before doing anything, you can best do this by modifying your schedule.

Thanks for the tips. That aligns with what I was expecting. There are already 2 additional Tiers in the policy so that is covered off. In addition to those steps, I am dropping the AO_CPG "Growth Warning" by 1TB a day to remove the data in a controlled manner.
