Hi, I'm not 100% sure this is useful for you but here goes:

Not really a technical document but for overviews of the concepts and options (plus part numbers) on the 3Par/StoreServ (new naming convention from HP) the product quickspecs/product bulletin (HP have multiple names for everything) are ideal:

The new mid-market StoreServ 7000 range:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quic ... 33_div.PDF

HP 3PAR StoreServ 10000 Storage:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quic ... 03_div.PDF

StoreServ Software info:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quic ... 64_div.PDF

Also being a massive n00b myself (not just to 3par - to SAN in general!), I like the 3par youtube channel as they make it nice and easy for me to understand.
http://www.youtube.com/user/3PARTV - I especially like the old-skool filmed in a carpark pre HP acquisition vids from the 3Par guys :-)

A couple of other places that are handy to look...

HP Spock Website (Requires Registration)

http://h20272.www2.hp.com/Pages/spock2Html.aspx?htmlFile=hw_3par.html - Main 3Par InForm OS Interporability Matrix

http://h20272.www2.hp.com/Pages/spock2Html.aspx?htmlFile=sw_array_3par.html - Main 3Par Software Interoperability Matrix

Both sites are very useful in confirming Supported revisions of HBA, Software etc. when performing upgrades of your 3Par Storage Array!

Regards,

Andrew

I also recommend having a look at the various whitepapers available on the HP Enterprise Library.

Enterprise Library base URL:
http://h20195.www2.hp.com/V2/erl.aspx?cc=us&lc=en

with this one you directly get the list of the current 3PAR related whitepapers:
http://h20195.www2.hp.com/V2/erl.aspx?reg=us&lang=en&doctype=white%20paper&docreg=ww|us|usca|amer&keywords=3par&logic=OR&numberitems=all&sortedby=recentdate&sortorder=desc&query=yes

Cheers StorePete

Hi Chaps, hope someone can help.

Where do i get the actual downloads for code upgrades for the service processor and the inform OS? I want to do the actual upgrade myself. I need to upgrade my Virt service processor as part of the process.

The closest I've come is this document "HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2 Patch 04 upgrade instructions" it states: "Obtain the ISO file for the patch from the USB portal or the Business Support Center www.hp.com/bizsupport and place it on a local drive."

However, the bizsupport link does not work for 3par as it says that no 3par stuff is hosted there. USB Portal just sounds made up. 3Par software downloads seems to be complete packages, not an upgrade package?

Any help much appreciated :-)

I think you should take a look at this not made up USB portal.

Link to 3PAR software downloads. Requires HP passport account and account details like SAID and SAR numbers.

Post subject:  Re: 3PAR Links to resources on the web

I think this may be a good location for this b/c the thread is pinned and it would be good info..

Can anyone explain the software version, patch, release naming convention? How to make sense out of it? How do you know what is what and how to apply the sw in what order?

Take this from the OS 3.1.2 Release Note:
HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2.278 (GA),
HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2.322 (MU1),
HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2.422 (MU2),
HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2.422 (EMU2),
HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2.484 (MU3),
HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2.592 (MU5).

Then, on the sw update page, you have this sort of thing:
3.1.2 MU1 P05
3.1.2 GA-MU1 P04
3.1.2 GA P07

MU = Maintenance UPdate
GA = General Availability
EMU = ?

How does one know what is actually required to simply apply a single patch?

Just trying to make sense of the nomenclature. I can't find anything in my ServiceOne Intallation manual that explains what all that means.

Thanks!

Check out my 3Par Blog: http://3pardude.com/

I am working for a service provider on a large 3par implementation and have been posting my experiences with 3par as I learn more and hopefully work smarter not harder.
