Hi folks.. We are transitioning off of the hp xp storage on to the 3par and I'm brand new to the 3par technology. If anyone out there has worked with the Xp raid manager can you help me draw some parallels?

Here are the main XP Raid manager commands I use and my best guess at the 3par equivalent in parenths.

1. Paircreate (I assume this is the createvv)?
2. Pairresync (createvvcopy?)
3. Pair split. (??)

Any guidance is appreciated.

From the commands it looks like you're creating a local physical clone with a periodic resync against the primary volume, which you can do but typically on 3PAR you'd use a snap for this. If you can explain what it is you're trying to achieve rather than just listing the commands then you're more likely to get help.

Thanks for the reply johnM

You are correct , I'm creating a full clone copy that I then copy to,a set of LUNS on HPUX, that I initially import, then resync each day with the changes.... Then Fsck and remount the lvols. The import of the LUNS is only done once when first presenting. (Vegimport)

"Createvvcopy" would allow you to use a physical copy (clone), you would want to use the -s option and keep an intermediate snapshot for later resync.

However I'd look at just using snapshots with "createsv" and a regular "updatevv" to provide the resync, it's much lighter weight, simpler and more efficient than cloning and updatevv will maintain the same WWN between snaps, which will be important for the remount.

See the CLI guide below
