cpg query

I have 2 CPG.

-t r1 -p -devtype FC
-t r5 -p -devtype FC

showspace -t r5 -p -devtype FC

---Estimated(GB)----
RawFree UsableFree
100 50

showspace -t r1 -p -devtype FC
---Estimated(Gb)----
RawFree UsableFree
100 75

As per my understanding the whatever the Raid group it will pullout the space from FC disk. Now suppose i have to do the capacity planning then which space I need to consider here
which given by raid group r5 or r1. How to calaculate it.

Waugh

This should have gone in your other thread related to the same topic.

But if you have a R5 3+1 config then you get 75% of available space as usable space - hence the available 100gb becomes 75gb usable. R1 is 1+1 so you only get 50% so 100gb available becomes 50gb usable. R5 4+1 would be 80% and R5 5+1 would be 83% but I suspect you have insufficient shelves to do these - hence it seeming to use R5 3+1.

How you calculate it depends on how you intend to present/preserve your data as virtual volumes - e.g. which CPG you put the VV into. HP/3PAR best practice is R5 (R1 is a bit faster but not worth it usually) but if you only have 2 shelves then R1 is really the only option to survive the loss of one shelf.
