Dear friends,

Please is there a tool/way to know quickly how much free space is left in 3Par ?, volumes are created thinly provisionned.
And also, how to have all virtual capacity and real capacity(after physical raid) ?
What is the good indicator for calculating : CPGs sizes, IMC Systems or Virtual Volumes Sizes?
Is there any tools to check all these informations ?
Sorry for being asking questions, just trying to understand this.

Thank you & Best regards.

Hi Albatros,

I usually find the total used space using the command showsys, which gives the total allocated(Total used).

And also you can find the total used space for each VV in Performance and Reports section.

Please do correct me if I'm wrong.

Regards,
KK

Hi,

Free space you are seeing in 3PAR IMC console is raw space and it is not actual usable one. In order to know exact usable free space for a CPG on a 3PAR please use below commands.

First run below command to get the CPG list along with its properties

HP3Par1 cli% showcpg -sdg
5 SQL_FC_SS6 - - 8192 -t r5 -ha mag -ssz 2 -p -devtype FC

Then run below command with CPG property and you will get usable free space info

HP3Par1 cli% showspace -t r5 -ha mag -ssz 2 -p -devtype FC
--Estimated(MB)---
RawFree UsableFree
8231728 7101430

Have a nice day always. Enjoy.

Thanks a lot for making me understand..

So that gives the usable free space available in the each device type.

If we go to Physical Disk in IMC it also gives the Allocated and Free capacity right..?

Sorry for asking lot of questions...

KK

In the MC, you can go to Provisioning > CPG > Select the CPG You want to see and look at the pane below. It'll give you a pretty good graphic that I use when making a case as to why we need to buy more disks. CLI is the way to go in most cases, but when you're asking for another quarter million in drives it's all about the visual aids.

My FC CPG R5 SS6:
HQ-3PAR1 cli% showspace -t r5 -ha mag -ssz 6 -p -devtype FC
--Estimated(MB)---
RawFree UsableFree
5627904 4689920

This is a screenshot of my space with the given CPG. We hit 98% used space last week so I've been scrambling to keep things from growing to fast while we wait for more drives and shelves to arrive.

Hope that helps.

Not to throw fuel on the fire... but...

There is free RAW space, per spindle type.
There is "unallocated space" (aka free) isolated inside each CPG.
There is FREE SPACE allocated within each TPVV.

First things first, what is your definition of "free space".

Code:
showpd -space
command should give you good indication. But this value is useless for capacity calculation.
Hope this answers your question:
